Between the vast Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, China and Portugal are using the ocean as a link to write a new chapter in scientific and technological cooperation between Asia and Europe. Since the two countries formally established the "Blue Partnership" in 2017, both sides have deepened their cooperation in various maritime fields.

In March 2024, the Sino-Portuguese Marine Innovation Research Center was officially launched at the University of Algarve. As a key project under the "China-Portugal Science and Technology 2030" partnership, the center will focus on genomic research of the mussel immune bank, building on over a decade of cooperation between Shanghai Ocean University and the University of Algarve.

The deepening of scientific research cooperation cannot be separated from talents support. In recent years, the University of Algarve and Shanghai Ocean University have cultivated several young scientists through exchange programs.

From the laboratory to the industrial chain, from talent training to polar exploration, maritime cooperation between China and Portugal provides a vivid example for building a maritime community with a shared future through an innovative and pragmatic approach.
