Portuguese tourist arrivals in Macau up 24.2% in January

Portuguese tourist arrivals in Macau in January were up 24.2% on the same month last year, according to figures released by Macau's Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC).


The official figures show that the region received 555 tourists and 181 excursionists residing in Portugal in January, respectively 24.2% and 52.1% more than last year.


Thus, including tourists (who spend at least one night) and excursionists (who visit without staying overnight), Macau received 736 Portuguese visitors in January, 30% more than in the same month last year, but still 29.2% below January 2019, pre-pandemic.


In total, Macau received 3.647 million visitors in January, 27.4% more than last year. The majority of visitors are residents of Mainland China (75.4% of the total).


At intercontinental level, the United States led the way among the biggest source markets for Macau, with 12,400 visitors in January, 13.2% more than in the same month last year.
