China and Guinea-Bissau sign a cashewnut purchase agreement

The Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Agriculture and Services of Guinea-Bissau (CCIAS) and 17 businessmen from the Chinese province of Hunan signed a strategic cooperation agreement on August 23 for the export of cashew nuts from Guinea-Bissau to China and the establishment of a factory for local processing of cashew nuts.


The president of the Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Agriculture and Services, Mama Samba Embalo, said that the initial agreements will commence with the export of 50 thousand tons of cashew nuts. Guinea-Bissau will supply the product to Chinese businessmen, who will process it locally, value adding to the cashew nuts.


From August 22 to 24, Zhou Nong, Deputy Director of the Standing Committee of the Hunan Provincial People's Congress, led a delegation to Guinea-Bissau to discuss the export of cashew nuts to China. The delegation met with the Prime Minister and representatives of the government and the Chamber of Commerce, and explored cooperation in renewable energy, agriculture and mining.
