Exports from Portuguese-speaking countries to China got off to the best start ever, reaching 35 billion dollars (32.6 billion euros) in the first quarter of 2024. This is the highest figure for the period between January and March.
Exports rose 23.6% year-on-year, mainly due to the Chinese market's largest Portuguese-speaking supplier, Brazil, whose sales grew 25.8% to 29.3 billion dollars, a new high for a first quarter.
Angola's sales of goods to China rose 9.6% to 4.32 billion dollars, while Portugal's exports rose 5.4% to 743.7 million dollars.
The data shows that most Portuguese-speaking countries exported more to China, including Mozambique, whose sales rose 26.6% to 407.4 million dollars.
