Brazil remained Macau’s largest trade partner among Portuguese-speaking countries in 2014.
Trade between Macau and Brazil reached MOP330.9 million (US$41.4 million) last year, an increase of 37 percent compared with 2013, figures from Macau’s Statistics and Census Service show.
Sales of Brazilian goods to Macau totalled MOP330.5 million, up by 36 percent year-on-year. Imports from Macau by Brazil rose by 156 percent to MOP440,000, the service said.
Portugal comes in a distant second as a Lusophone commercial partner. Its trade with Macau stood at MOP250.0 million in 2014, up by 18 percent in year-on-year terms.
Exports of Portuguese goods to Macau totalled MOP247.6 million, increasing by 19 percent in comparison with 2013. In the opposite direction, goods sold by Macau to Portugal dropped by 42 percent to MOP2.4 million.
