Trade in merchandise between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries reached US$220.869 billion in the period from January to December 2023. It represented a 2.81 percent increase year-on-year, according to data from China Customs. Portuguese-speaking Countries sold goods worth US$147.470 billion to China in 2023, up 6.24 percent year-on-year. The value of China’s merchandise exports to those countries reached US$73.399 billion in the same period, an increase of 3.45 percent year-on-year, according to Chinese official data.
The total value of merchandise traded in December of 2023 between the parties topped US$20.902 billion, up by 30.98 percent from the previous year. The value of China’s merchandise imports from Portuguese-speaking Countries reached US$14.512 billion in December, up by 39.06 percent month-to-month, according to Chinese official data. China sold goods to those countries worth US$6.390 billion, an increase of 15.72 percent compared with the previous year.
