China will send to São Tomé and Príncipe for the period 2024 to 2029 a total of four Chinese medical teams made up of several Chinese specialists to support the national health system, Chinese ambassador Xu YingZhen announced on the 12th of December.

The Chinese diplomat made this announcement moments after the signing of the agreement that supports this support from China, with the document having been initialed by Xu YingZhen herself and the Sao Tome minister of health, Célsio Junqueira.

Each medical team will remain in the archipelago for around a year and a half, Xu YingZhen explained. Each will be made up of specialist doctors, particularly in the areas of obstetrics, gynecology, general surgery, anesthesiology, acupuncture, cardiovascular medicine and dentistry.

The Chinese diplomat also said that “according to this country's need for the next medical team, the Chinese government will send an anesthesiologist to this country to cover the needs and increase the medical service capabilities of this country.”.
