Representatives of the southwestern Chinese province of Guizhou have held a seminar in Brazil on the intangible cultural heritage of their province, Sina News reports.

The Chinese website says nearly 200 people attended the event, held last week at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio).

The report says the Guizhou provincial government, the Confucius Institute at PUC-Rio, the Chinese state-run news agency China News Service and Donghua University in Shanghai jointly put on the seminar.

It quotes Mu Degui, member of the Standing Committee of the Guizhou Provincial Communist Party Committee, as telling the seminar that Sino-Brazilian civil engagement began over 200 years ago when Chinese brought tea to Brazil. Mr Mu said Guizhou had more land planted with tea than any other part of China.

The seminar gave Brazilians a taste of the diversity of Chinese culture, and Guizhou ought to put on more such events in Brazil in the future, Sina News quotes Chinese Consul-General in Rio de Janeiro Li Yang as saying.
