The Angolan Justice and Human Rights Ministry will open on Friday a Chinese-built facility capable of issuing more than 20,000 identity cards a day, Novo Jornal reports.

The Angolan newspaper quotes the ministry as announcing that President João Lourenço will attend the opening of the building, which is in Kilamba, on the outskirts of Luanda.

The report says state-owned China National Electronics Import & Export Corp. (CEIEC) built the facility for US$243 million.

The building has 12,000 square metres of floor space where the whole process of issuing identity cards can be completed.

The ministry sent 37 officials to Beijing last year for a training by CEIEC in how to manage the Angolan national identity card system, Novo Jornal says.

Last year another newspaper, Jornal de Angola, said CEIEC was in charge of introducing the system.
