The government of the central Chinese province of Hubei says the Chinese and Mozambican governments, and a US charity, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, have agreed to begin building a model farm in Mozambique.

A written announcement by the agriculture department of the provincial government says the parties to the agreement hope the agricultural technology demonstration centre will spur the transfer of technology to Mozambique and investment in farming there.

The project is the outcome of a visit that Chinese President Xi Jinping made to the United States in 2015, and an agreement in principle reached by the parties the year after, the provincial government announcement says.
