A contractor has begun building the Portelinha public housing complex on the Cabo Verdean island of São Vicente, RTC reports.

The Cabo Verdean public broadcaster says the construction of the 11 buildings in the Portelinha complex, which will together contain 88 dwellings, is the outcome of an agreement that the Cabo Verdean government and the China International Development Cooperation Agency struck in January.

The report quotes Cabo Verdean Infrastructure, Land Management and Housing Minister Eunice Silva as saying São Vicente has insufficient housing at present.

The complex will be supplied with water and electricity, and served by a sewerage system, and it will even have a children’s playground, RTC quotes a member of the local government of São Vicente, Rodrigo Martins, as saying.
