The number of Portuguese that emigrated fell to 100,000 or so in 2016, about 10,000 fewer than the year before, Xinhua reports.
The Chinese state-run news agency, citing the Portuguese Observatory of Emigration, says annual emigration slowed after peaking in 2013 as the Portuguese economy improved.
Most Portuguese emigrants that go to other European countries settle in Britain, France or Switzerland, while most of those that leave Europe settle in Angola or Mozambique, Xinhua says.
