Nine companies from Mainland China will tour São Tomé and Príncipe to identify investments in infrastructure projects, the Macauhub website reports.

While the report does not mention the names of the companies involved it quotes São Tomé and Príncipe’s Prime Minister Patrice Trovoada as saying a deep-water port costing more than US$800 million was one likely project.

São Tomé and Príncipe signed an agreement in October 2015 with China Harbour Engineering Co. Ltd. to help construct a port in Lobata, 12 kilometres from São Tomé, the capital city.

Beijing restored diplomatic ties with São Tomé and Príncipe last month following a break of 19 years after the Portuguese-speaking Country established links with Taiwan.
