China’s Ambassador to Cape Verde, Du Xiaocong, and Cape Verde’s Prime Minister, Ulisses Correia e Silva, met on Wednesday to discuss new opportunities for bilateral co-operation, Cape Verdean news agency Inforpress reported.

It was the first official meeting between the diplomat and the new head of the Cape Verdean Government. Mr Silva took on the position after his party, Movement for Democracy (MpD), won an absolute majority in the country’s parliamentary elections, held in March.

“Our perspective is to strengthen and promote even further the co-operation between the two countries in several fields,” Mr Du told journalists, after the meeting.

“I believe we will be able to develop many more projects in the next years,” the Ambassador was quoted as saying. He added the Government of Cape Verde would now analyse the situation in order to identify new projects and areas for co-operation between the two nations.
