China “has the confidence and capability to maintain medium-high growth,” the Chinese President, Xi Jinping, stated on Sunday, as quoted by Chinese state-run news agency Xinhua.
Mr Xi was addressing a G20 summit in the city of Antalya, in Turkey.
The Chinese President pointed out China’s economy was likely to have expanded by about 7 percent in 2015. He added the country had the responsibility to drive economic growth in times of global economic hardship, and would continue to contribute about 30 percent of the world’s annual economic expansion.
China’s President also mentioned the drafting of the country’s 13th Five-Year Plan for national economic and social development, covering the period 2016 to 2020. He said the Plan aimed to build a “moderately prosperous society” and to double gross domestic product and per capita income of both urban and rural residents by 2020 when compared to 2010 levels, Xinhua reported.
Mr Xi added that China’s path over the next five years would be of “innovative”, “green”, “open” and “shared” development.
On Sunday, the Chinese President also took part in a meeting of the BRICS countries, held on the sidelines of the G20 summit. He called on the group of emerging economies – comprised of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa – to boost coordination in dealing with existing global challenges.
“China stands ready to share development opportunities with other BRICS countries and lift our economic co-operation,” Mr Xi stated, as quoted by the media outlet.
