Construction work at Angola’s new Luanda International Airport should be completed by April 2017, local news agency Angop reported. Chinese company China International Fund Ltd (CIF) is building the infrastructure.

Angola’s Minister of Transportation, Augusto Tomás, made the announcement on Monday, during a visit to the construction site.

Angolan President, José Eduardo dos Santos, also visited the construction site on Monday. He also met with Government officials and representatives of CIF.

According to online news portal Macauhub, the US$3.8-billion project will allow the airport to handle about 15 million passengers per year and to process 35,000 tons of cargo per year. It will have two double runways, said the media outlet.

News agency Angop added the future airport in Luanda would help boost several economic sectors in the country, including industry, agriculture, livestock and fishery.
