China is planning to build an electric vehicles production centre in Brazil. The move comes after a Chinese official delegation visited a technology park in São José dos Campos, in the Brazilian state of São Paulo, last week.

The Chinese Minister of Science and Technology, Wan Gang, led the Chinese delegation and met with the Director of the park – Parque Tecnológico de São José dos Campos –, Marco António Raupp .

According to the Brazilian press – as quoted by news online outlet Macauhub –, the two sides discussed a future partnership between the technology park and the Chinese Government, with Mr Wan presenting a model of a vehicle that is already being manufactured by a Chinese company.

The idea is for Beijing to install a centre for production of electric vehicles, making use of the Electric Dreams company factory, which is already installed in the park.

“Our project targets a sporty, high performance electric vehicle, where a series of technologies are being developed. What we have developed may be included in the electric vehicles that they [the Chinese Government] may produce in Brazil”, said Fábio Guillaumon, director of Electric Dreams, as quoted by Brazilian news portal Globo.

The Paraíba Valley in São Paulo state is expected to see new economic activity in partnership with the Chinese. It includes: the building of a new industrial centre in Jacarei, sponsored by automaker Chery; the development of the CBERS (China-Brazil Earth Resources Satellite) system and the sale to China of aircraft by Brazilian aerospace firm Embraer, Globo reported.
