China and Brazil discussed co-operation opportunities in tourism technology at a round table held a few days ago at the Brazil Centre, in Shanghai's Yangpu district. The meeting focused on innovation and the sustainable development of tourism.

The Brazil Centre functions as a service platform to promote economic, trade, scientific, technological, cultural and tourism relations between the two countries, facilitating contacts between companies, governments and organisations.

During the event, the "China Technology Exploration Tour" programme was launched by EmbraturLAB, the innovation laboratory of the Brazilian International Tourism Promotion Agency (Embratur). The initiative provides for face-to-face meetings and exchanges between Brazilian and Chinese companies.

Co-operation will start from Yangpu and is expected to expand to the Yangtze River Delta and the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area. The areas of interest include digital tourism, smart cultural tourism and sustainable development, seeking to strengthen the integration between technological innovation and tourism.

According to data from Embratur, the Ministry of Tourism and the Federal Police, Brazil received 113,228 Chinese tourists between January and August 2026, up 73.3% on the same period a year earlier. For EmbraturLAB, innovation can strengthen the sector's competitiveness and improve the visitor experience.
