“Ho-Ho and the Sound of Brazil”, a co-production between the Brazilian production companies Amorim Filmes and LC Barreto and the CCTV Animation Group, the animation arm of the Chinese media group China Media Group (CMG), featured in the programme of RioMarket during the Rio Festival. The session, scheduled for 5 October, included the screening of the first full episode followed by a conversation with the creative team.

The animation, which presents Brazilian culture and sounds in an unprecedented partnership with China, also fulfils a long-held ambition of the Brazilian film producer Luiz Carlos Barreto: to produce animated works capable of presenting the national identity to new generations and to the international market. The series is due to premiere on the Brazilian channel TV Cultura in November this year. The project forms part of the official initiatives of the Brazil–China Cultural Year 2026 and has confirmed follow-up plans, with four seasons and a feature film.

Sponsored by the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) and with institutional support from the Ministry of Culture and the Brazilian Federal Government, “Ho-Ho and the Sound of Brazil” brings together the vision of Luiz Carlos Barreto and the creativity of the Brazilian director João Amorim, realised through the work of Amorim Filmes in partnership with the Brazilian and Chinese teams. The series takes audiences into an original universe of characters and stories, in which music serves as a language to bring the two countries closer together.
