According to the data released by the National Institute of Statistics (INE) of Portugal on September 8, the turnover index in the country's industry registered a year-on-year nominal growth of 5.6% in July, a slowdown of 1.0 percentage point compared to June. Excluding the energy category, revenue rose by 3.9%. In July, the sales index for the domestic market stood at 7.9%, contributing 5.0 percentage points to the total variation of the index; foreign markets accounted for 1.6%, contributing 0.6 percentage points to the total value. By grouping, energy and intermediate goods showed good results, growing 12.1% and 7.2%, contributing 2.5 and 2.3 percentage points, respectively, to the variation; in turn, capital goods and consumer goods recorded annual increases of 2.8% and 0.8%, jointly contributing 0.7 percentage points to the aggregate. In addition, the industrial revenue index recorded a monthly decline of 1.4% in July. In the month under review, employment and hours worked showed year-on-year declines of 1.3% and 1.7%, while wage growth slowed to 3.9%.
