The Mozambican province of Sofala and the Chinese province of Hunan recently signed a co-operation agreement in Maputo aimed at promoting investment and economic development. The partnership will prioritise the modernisation of agriculture and the introduction of technology and specialised expertise in Sofala.

The Governor of Sofala, Lourenço Bulha, said that increased investment could boost the province’s productive capacity. The official highlighted the potential of mineral resources, available land and coastal and marine resources. He also added that Hunan entrepreneurs had already been invited to explore investment opportunities in the province.

Shen Yumou, Director of the Hunan Provincial Department of Commerce, said that the agreement could deepen co-operation and contribute to a more favourable business environment. According to the official, Hunan intends to support Sofala’s development through technology sharing and the training of professionals, particularly in the agricultural sector.

As part of the partnership, plans are in place to establish an Agricultural Technology Demonstration and Transfer Centre in Sofala. The programme also provides for the training of at least 200 people.
