Cabo Verde’s Minister for Social Communication, Clóvis Silva, travelled to Beijing last week to attend the 7th China-Africa Media Cooperation Forum. The forum brings together Chinese and African representatives to examine new opportunities for co-operation in radio, television, audiovisual production and technological innovation.

Clóvis Silva’s agenda includes an address at one of the sub-forums, where he will present Cabo Verde’s perspective on the challenges and opportunities facing the media and audiovisual sector amid the current context of technological transformation.

During the visit, he is also scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with officials from China’s National Radio and Television Administration (NRTA), the body responsible for regulating and managing the country’s radio and television sector. According to the information released, the meeting is expected to be followed by the signing of agreements aimed at strengthening co-operation between Cabo Verde and China in the areas of media and audiovisual content.

The forum is also expected to adopt a joint declaration and present the results of the China-Africa Media Cooperation Initiative. The initiative seeks to follow up on the understandings reached at the 2024 Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation and deepen exchanges in content production and distribution, technological innovation and professional training.
