The advancement of the automotive industry, mainly with Chinese electric cars, boosted the demand for the product for vehicle upholstery.

In the first half of this year alone, the Asian country was the destination for 40% of the hides and skins exported by Brazilian tanneries. For example, the raw material is used to manufacture upholstery for electric cars. Given this heated demand, the sector expects to close the year with growth compared to 2023.

From January to June, China purchased 39.17 million square meters of hides and skins, an increase of 33.3% compared to the same period in 2023. With these purchases, the Chinese accounted for 29.9% of revenue from Brazilian leather exports.
