The 11th Cultural Week of China and Portuguese-speaking Countries will be held from October 12 to 18. It is organised by the Permanent Secretariat of the Forum for Economic and Trade Co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries (Macao). The event will feature: music and dance performances; visual arts exhibitions; a showcase of theatre; a handicraft fair; and a food festival.
The Permanent Secretariat of Forum Macao held on September 25 a press conference about the 11th Cultural Week. The briefing was attended by Deputy Secretary-General Mr Rodrigo Brum and by the Coordinator of the Support Office, Ms Mok Iun Lei.
The theme of the 11th edition of the Cultural Week will continue to be – as in recent years – “Cultural Belt and Road”. The event will make use of Macao’s bridging role between China and the Portuguese-speaking Countries to promote cultural exchanges and deepen people-to-people friendship ties, thus contributing to economic and trade cooperation between both sides. The event will also look to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Macao’s return to the motherland and the 40th anniversary of the reestablishment of diplomatic ties between China and Portugal.
The 11th Cultural Week of China and Portuguese-speaking Countries starts on October 12 at Macau Fisherman’s Wharf. Renowned artists from nine Portuguese-speaking Countries and Regions (Angola, Brazil, Cabo Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, Portugal, São Tomé and Príncipe, Timor-Leste, and India’s Goa, Daman and Diu) and from China’s Hebei Province, will take part in a series of exciting activities in Macao:
Music and dance groups from China’s Hebei Province and from Portuguese-speaking Countries will perform a series of lively shows at Senado Square and at Macau Fisherman’s Wharf, promoting the performing arts of China and of Portuguese-speaking Countries;
The visual arts exhibitions at Macau Fisherman’s Wharf will feature showcases by artists from respectively Brazil and Guinea-Bissau. The Gallery in the Official Residence of the Portuguese Consul-General in Macao and Hong Kong will display work by 20 young Macao artists, offering a unique visual arts experience;
Chefs from Angola, Brazil, São Tomé and Príncipe, Timor-Leste and Macao will take part in a food festival, preparing traditional dishes from their respective countries at Rio Grill & Capriccio Italian restaurant, in Macau Fisherman’s Wharf. Workshops on Portuguese-speaking Countries’ cuisine will be held at the Macao Institute for Tourism Studies and Macau University of Science and Technology;
A handicraft fair will take place at Macau Fisherman’s Wharf, and will feature products from Mainland China, the Portuguese-speaking Countries and Regions, and Macao, including wood carvings, dolls and egg carvings;
The 11th Cultural Week will also feature booths making available snacks, food products and traditional games from Portuguese-speaking Countries;
A showcase of theatre from Portuguese-speaking Countries and Regions will feature plays performed respectively by troupes from Mozambique, Portugal, São Tomé and Príncipe, Timor-Leste and Macao.
This year’s Cultural Week is organised by the Permanent Secretariat of Forum Macao and co-organised by: the Macao Cultural Affairs Bureau, the Macao Government Tourism Office, the Municipal Affairs Bureau, the Macao Institute for Tourism Studies, and the Macau University of Science and Technology.
