The 6th Ministerial Conference of the Forum for Economic and Trade Co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries (Macao) (hereinafter referred to as Forum Macao) will be held in Macao from April 21 to 23, 2024.

The Ministerial Conference will feature major activities such as an opening ceremony, ministerial meetings, the signing ceremony of the Strategic Plan for Economic and Trade Co-operation (2024-2027), and the Entrepreneurs Conference for China and Portuguese-speaking Countries. It will identify the key areas of economic and trade co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking countries in the next three years and further develop Macao’s role as a commercial and trade service platform between China and Portuguese-speaking countries.

Forum Macao was founded in Macao in October 2003. It resulted from an initiative by China’s Central Government (Ministry of Commerce), with the collaboration of the Government of the Macao Special Administrative Region (Macao SAR), and the coordination by nine Portuguese-speaking countries: Angola, Brazil, Cabo Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, Mozambique, Portugal, São Tomé and Príncipe and Timor-Leste.

Since its establishment, Forum Macao has successfully organized five Ministerial Conferences and an Extraordinary Ministerial Meeting to promote intergovernmental co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking countries in various fields, including trade and investment, industrial co-operation, development co-operation, human resources, medical and health, and education and cultural affairs. The increased co-operation in those fields has helped facilitate Macao’s role as a commercial and trade service platform serving China and Portuguese-speaking countries while bringing about greater opportunities for Macao’s appropriate economic diversification.
