Following an invitation from the Permanent Secretariat of the Forum for Economic and Trade Co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries (Macao) – also known as Forum Macao – 18 participants in the “Seminar for Angolan Officials on Economic Development Experiences” visited Macao between August 11 and 13. The aim of the visit was to improve their knowledge on the social and economic development of Macao and on the city’s role as a services platform for trade co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries, including Angola.
Several meetings aiming to explore new opportunities and promote exchanges were held during the trip. The participants also tried to find new ways to deepen trade between Angola, Mainland China and Macao.
The Seminar was promoted by China’s Ministry of Commerce, and the Seminar’s content taught by the ministry’s Academy for International Business Officials. Angolan officials invited to take part in the Seminar – which included a visit to China between August 4 and 13 – included the Vice-Governor of Uige Province, Mr Carlos Mendes Samba, as well as 17 representatives from: Angola’s Ministry of Economy; Ministry of Finance; Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Ministry of Planning; Ministry of Territorial Administration; Ministry of Science and Technology; Ministry of Fisheries; Ministry of Energy and Water; and Ministry of Industry, among other entities.
During their stay in Macao, officials visited: the Permanent Secretariat of Forum Macao; the Macau Government Tourist Office; the Macao Economic Services; the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM); and the Macao Industrial Parks Development Company, Limited. They also conducted a field trip to the Zhuhai-Macao Cross Border Industrial Zone. In addition, participants had the opportunity to visit the UNESCO-listed Historic Centre of Macao.
The Deputy Secretary of the Academy for International Business Officials of the Ministry of Commerce of China, Mr Huang Dengping, and the Secretary-General of the Permanent Secretariat of Forum Macao, Mr Chang Hexi, accompanied the delegation during their stay in Macao.
