From February 19 to 25, a delegation of the Permanent Secretariat of the Forum for Economic and Trade Co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries (Macao), led by Secretary-General Ji Xianzheng, visited Beijing and met with the ambassadors or representatives to China of Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, Mozambique, Portugal, São Tomé and Príncipe, and Timor-Leste.
During the visits, Secretary-General Ji Xianzheng, on behalf of the Permanent Secretariat of Forum Macao, expressed his gratitude to the embassies of Portuguese-speaking countries to China for their long-term assistance and support to the efforts of the Permanent Secretariat. He also presented the highlights of the Permanent Secretariat’s work in 2022 and its plan for 2023 in terms of trade and investment promotion, cooperation in human resources, cultural exchanges, and construction of the platform between China and Portuguese-speaking countries, as well as exchanged views with all parties on the future development of Forum Macao.
The representatives of the embassies of Portuguese-speaking countries to China remarked that throughout its 20 years of existence, Forum Macao has played an important role in promoting the economic and commercial cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking countries and in the common development between the participating countries. They also added that in 2022, the Permanent Secretariat has achieved positive results in overcoming challenges brought by the pandemic and that the Governments of Portuguese-speaking countries will continue to provide full support to the efforts of the Permanent Secretariat. On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of its establishment, Forum Macao will give better play to its role as a multilateral cooperation mechanism in a bid to deepen the exchanges and cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking countries in various areas.
