Organized by the Permanent Secretariat of Forum for Economic and Trade Co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries (Macao), the 2nd “Lusophone Polychromes” exhibition series, part of the 14th Cultural Week of China and Portuguese-speaking Countries, will be held from November 18 to December 11, 2022, at Lisbon 2 Building at Macau Fisherman’s Wharf.
The exhibition series has invited nine outstanding artists from China and Portuguese-speaking countries. It showcases artworks of various themes in a wide array of presentations and styles, which cover painting, photography, and plastic sculpture. In the exhibition, visitors are able to appreciate the aesthetics of portraiture presented by emerging artist Don Sebas Cassule from Angola and the appealing virtual productions created by Brazilian artist Luciano Dremher. The Cabo Verdean artist Leomar takes the visitors on a trip around the islands with captivating paintings while surrealistic artist Lemos Djata from Guinea-Bissau initiates deep dialogues with resonance through large lifelike paintings. In the meantime, the visitors may also appreciate the skillful craftsmanship of artist Walter Zandamela from Mozambique in his realistic paintings as well as Portuguese artist Maria Leal da Costa’s sculpture in pursuit of eternity and get lost in the dazzling labyrinthine world in the paintings by artist Olavo Amado from São Tomé and Príncipe. At the last stop, the visitors may cast their eyes over the photographs by photographer Jafet Potenzo Lopes from Timor-Leste to indulge themselves in the charm of the ocean while enjoying the relaxing and enchanting landscape of Macao created by famed Macao artist Lio Man Cheong.
Through the artworks, the artists wish to tell visitors the stories of their times and showcase the incomparably fascinating landscapes of China and Portuguese-speaking countries. This artistic feast of exquisite affections and polychromatic elements gathers artworks from China and Portuguese-speaking countries to exude their distinctive cultural characteristics and thereby further strengthens Macao’s role as a center of cultural exchanges between China and Portuguese-speaking countries.
The exhibition series will be held from November 18 to December 11, 2022, from 11am to 7pm on Tuesdays to Sundays (closed on Mondays). Admission is free and all are welcome to visit. To protect the public’s health, all must comply with the crowd control measures on site, wear a face mask, undergo a body temperature check, scan the “Venue QR code”, and present a valid “Macao Health Code”.
