On the 8th of August, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva inaugurated Infovia 01, the second section of the Norte Conectado project, which runs along the Amazon riverbed and its main tributaries.
This section of 1,100 km links Santarém, in the state of Pará, and Manaus, in Amazonas, with branches in Óbidos, Juruti, Curuá, Parintins, Urucurituba and Itacoatiara, as well as Oriximiná, Terra Santa and Autazes. The route should bring internet to about 3 million people in the region, according to the federal government.
HT Cabos and HMN, local subsidiaries of Chinese fiber optic manufacturer Hengtong, supplied the cables for this second section. Infovia 01 is also the first of the sections of the Norte Conectado program financed with funds from the country's 5G auction.
