Mozambique debates minimum wage increase

The Government of Mozambique has started discussions with trade union leaders and representatives of the business sector on an increase in the country’s minimum wage.

Discussions commenced on March 6. The goal is to set new minimum wage levels for nine business sectors. The changes are to be introduced by April 1.

Mozambique has different minimum wage levels for different industries. The previous increase was last year.

The monthly minimum wage in public administration, defence and security currently stands at 3,002 meticais (US$89.30). For the banking and insurance sector, the minimum wage is 7,465 meticais.
