Thirty tons of new rice seed of Chinese origin are being tested by the Leijun-CA farm, owned by the Chinese company “Olombi Agro-negócios”, in a 133-hectare area of the Matala irrigated perimeter, in the province of Huíla.
The aim is to achieve yields of seven tons per hectare. For the next agricultural season, in January 2025, 300 hectares will be prepared, with plans to expand to 514 hectares available.
The municipal administrator of Matala, Manuel Machado Quilende, who visited the enterprise, recalled that in the last agricultural season, this company produced more than two thousand tons of rice sold in the municipality's main markets and other provinces.
He maintained that the country has been working on public policies to encourage increased production and that rice is part of the basic food basket, so all institutional support is necessary.
