On August 6, a seminar on malaria prevention and control was held in São Tomé and Príncipe, promoted by the Chinese Embassy, through the Chinese medical team supporting the fight against malaria.
At the opening of the seminar, the director of the National Center for Endemic Diseases, Bonifácio Sousa, said that the malaria incidence rate is considered “positive” due to the downward trend.
Chinese Ambassador Xu Yingzhen emphasized the importance of bilateral cooperation in the fight against malaria, citing the four technical support teams for the fight against malaria already sent to the African country. The Chinese ambassador also confirmed that the Chinese side will help develop the new anti-malaria strategy, contributing to strengthening the national health system in São Tomé and Príncipe.
During the seminar, the Chinese medical team from Guangzhou Medical University presented a study to combat malaria, having offered the Ministry of Health and Women's Rights a batch of Artequick, a medicine used to treat malaria.
