The GX Foundation, a Chinese healthcare charity, and the Ministry of Health of East Timor signed on July 19 the Memorandum of Partnership for Prevention and Control of Dengue and the Protocol of Intent for Partnership in Water Purification. The vice president of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CCPPCh) and president of the foundation, Leung Chun-ying, and the Prime Minister of East Timor, Xanana Gusmão, participated in the event.

With the support of the Ministry of Health of Timor-Leste and the Chinese Embassy in Timor-Leste, the GX Foundation has implemented a large-scale dengue prevention and control project in Timor-Leste over the past five months, which has achieved good results. In May and June, the number of dengue infections in Timor-Leste decreased by 76.5 percent. The project reduced charges for hospitals and other medical institutions in Timor-Leste.

The GX Foundation will also donate a batch of water purification equipment to hospitals, schools and other institutions in Timor-Leste.
