The Government of Minas Gerais announced on May 28 the purchase of 24 new trains by the concessionaire Metrô BH, responsible for the operation, modernization and expansion of the metro system in the Metropolitan Region of Belo Horizonte. The aim is to provide more comfort and regularity in travel for public transport users.
The new trainsets were manufactured by Chinese company Changchun Railway Vehicles, a leading subsidiary of the world's largest rolling stock manufacturer, CRRC Corporation Limited (CRRC).
The company has already started the manufacturing project and expects the first train to arrive in Brazil and go into operation in the first half of 2026. The new trains will operate on both Line 1 and Line 2 of the BH subway as soon as they are delivered.
