Stella Li, Executive Vice President of BYD and CEO of BYD Americas, said on May 15 that the Shark pickup truck will be one of the models that the Chinese manufacturer will assemble at its plant in Camaçari (BA). The first hybrid pick-up on the market is due to arrive in Brazil in September, and is currently still being imported from China.

"We've done a lot of studies on performance, load capacity and strength, and we understand that it will be a success. That's why we want to make it one of the first three models to be assembled in Brazil. We're going to start with a CKD system and then move on to production," Li explained. The Chinese manufacturer will invest R$5.5 billion in its operations here.

BYD's main leader in its global expansion process, Li confirmed domestic production of the Shark during the global launch of the SUV, held in Mexico, where the company will also set up a manufacturing plant. More details of this plant should be announced by the end of the year, according to company executives.
