The Prime Minister of Cape Verde, José Maria Neves, on Tuesday announced the appointment of an ambassador to Guinea-Bissau, in order to “improve relations” between the two countries, reported local media.
The announcement was made after a meeting with the Prime Minister of Guinea-Bissau, Domingos Simões Pereira, who on Monday began a three-day visit to Cape Verde.
“At this point, Cape Verde has an ambassador to Senegal, which also represents Cape Verde in Bissau, but we will appoint an ambassador exclusively to Guinea-Bissau,” said Mr Neves, quoted by Cape Verdean media.
Mr Neves also announced the resumption of flights between Bissau and Praia, Cape Verde’s capital city. Cape Verdean state airline TACV “is already preparing to resume air links with Guinea-Bissau,” he added.
Mr Neves also said that maritime connections would be improved “in order to improve bilateral trade”.
