The Chinese giant BYD began installing the factory complex that will produce electric vehicles in Bahia on the afternoon of March 5. From 2025, the automaker will produce electric and hybrid passenger vehicles, bus chassis and electric trucks. The expectation is to generate around 10,000 direct jobs in the state.

From now on, the factory will be built from scratch on 330 thousand square meters of land without buildings. In the second stage of the project, the old Ford complex will be renovated to be used to attract and implement the supply chain.

The start of construction continues the process of installing BYD's largest industrial hub outside of China, which involves an investment of R$3 billion. Also among the objectives in the next five years is the processing of lithium and iron phosphate, which will be used in vehicle batteries.
