The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) forecasts that Angolan gross domestic product will expand by 1.9 percent this year, having contracted by an estimated 0.7 percent last year, Macauhub reports.

The news website says the British research house forecasts that the annual rate of GDP growth in Angola will average 2.6 percent between this year and 2023, having averaged 1.4 percent between 2014 and last year.

The EIU bases its forecast of growth this year in part on the start of exploitation of the Kaombo oil field, on greater public spending, and on greater household and corporate consumption.

Angolan inflation accelerated last year because the kwanza was devalued, and will remain high while the currency is weak, Macauhub quotes the EIU as saying.
