The head of the Chinese customs service, Ni Yuefeng, has visited the exhibition centre in Macao that shows off food from the Portuguese-speaking Countries, the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) says.

IPIM issued a written statement saying Mr Ni was there to find out how the centre works, and hear the latest economic news from the lusophone countries and Macao.

The institute says Mr Ni came to Macao recently for the signing of agreements that the Macao SAR Government has reached on food safety and on the inspection of animals and plants.

The statement quotes IPIM President Irene Kuan Va Lau as saying Macao has similar showcases elsewhere in China to inform people there about food from the Portuguese-speaking world.

She added that IPIM hopes to keep on working with the Chinese customs service to help Macao serve its purpose as a place where China and the Portuguese-speaking Countries can conduct business.
