Cabo Verdean Health Minister Arlindo do Nascimento do Rosário has said his government hopes Cabo Verde will become an African hub for the practice of Chinese traditional medicine, serving a market of 200 million people, Lusa reports.

The Portuguese news agency quotes Mr Rosario as saying a centre for Chinese traditional medicine in Cabo Verde would be good for the health of the nation and draw visitors from elsewhere in Africa.

Mr Rosario said such a centre would be an asset for Cabo Verde, Macao and Mainland China.

He said Cabo Verde already had a booming pharmaceutical industry which produced 40 percent of the medicines the nation consumed.

Lusa says the minister was speaking in Macao on the sidelines of an international conference on traditional medicine attended by over 700 people.
