The mayors of two Cabo Verdean islands believe a surveillance system supplied by China will make built-up areas there safer and thus more attractive to tourists, Inforpress reports.

The Cabo Verdean state-run news agency quotes Sal Mayor Júlio Lopes and Boa Vista Mayor José Luís Santos as saying the system, being installed by Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd, will protect the reputation of Cabo Verde as a safe place to visit and so bring in more tourists.

They were speaking on the sidelines of a ceremony to start the second phase of the installation of the system, which will expand the surveillance coverage from Praia to four provincial cities, the main cities on the islands of São Vicente, Sal and Boa Vista, Inforpress says.
