Francisco Guterres, known as Lu-Olo, has been elected as the new President of East Timor after obtaining 57.08 percent of Monday’s vote, the Portuguese news agency Lusa reports.

Mr Guterres is a former President of the Timorese parliament and has the support of Fretilin, the Revolutionary Front for an Independent East Timor, and CNRT, the National Congress for Timorese Reconstruction.

His inauguration will take place on May 20.
