The International Monetary Fund says it expects the economy of Mozambique to expand by 5.5 percent next year, the fastest rate of growth it expects anywhere in Portuguese-speaking Africa.
The IMFs latest report on the economic outlook for sub-Saharan Africa forecasts that the Mozambican economy will grow by 4.5 percent this year.
The fund forecasts that Guinea-Bissau’s economy will grow by 4.8 percent this year and 5 percent next year, and that Cape Verde’s will grow by 3.6 percent this year and 4 percent next year.
It forecasts that the economy of Angola will stagnate this year but expand by 1.5 percent next year.
The sub-Saharan African economy as a whole will grow by 1.4 percent this year, expanding at the slowest rate for over 20 years, and grow by 2.9 percent next year, the IMF predicts.
