China can contribute more to Mozambique’s development, particularly in the building and operating of roads, ports and natural gas pipelines, Premier Li Keqiang said earlier this week.

Mr Li’s offer was made in Macao at a meeting with Mozambique’s Prime Minister Carlos Agostinho do Rosário, the government-run news agency Xinhua reports.

The leaders attended the Fifth Ministerial Conference of the Forum for Economic and Trade Co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries, an event that leverages Macao’s position as a business platform between the two communities.

Mr Li said both countries should leverage their friendship and co-operate in practical ways. Investment from China would assist Mozambique building a foundation for sustainable development, he said.

Mr Rosário said his government hoped to see greater co-operation to develop infrastructure, energy, agriculture, tourism and human resources.
