Angola’s Tourism Development Institute (Infotur) and ENSA – Seguros de Angola, have signed a memorandum of understanding for creation of a new travel insurance policy, the Angolan press reported this week.

The insurance would be mandatory for domestic tourism products offered by travel agencies in Angola and would be known as the National Insurance Card, according to newspaper Jornal de Angola.

The initiative is part of Infotur’s strategy to promote tourism by domestic travellers, said Angolan news agency Angop. It quoted the Director General of Infotur, Eugénio Clemente, as saying the aim is to use tourism “as a practice of social coexistence” for all Angolans, “regardless of their financial situation”.

Mr Clemente added – as quoted by the news agency – the development of tourism could help to diversify the Angolan economy, as well as to create new jobs in tourism areas.
