Chinese vehicle manufacturer BYD Co Ltd plans to expand further into the Brazilian market by deepening its co-operation with Brazil’s postal services group Correios, Chinese state-run newspaper China Daily reported this week.

“Correios is absolutely the leader of the country’s logistics industry. Its projects will influence not only the whole industry, but other international companies such as DHL and FedEx,” BYD told the media outlet by e-mail.

BYD Co Ltd specialises in manufacturing of vehicles that use alternative sources of energy rather than traditional combustion engines. According to China Daily, the company in March loaned one of its T3 electric vans to Correios. The Brazilian group had been assessing environmentally-friendly vehicles from several vehicle manufacturers with a view to using them for logistics services.

The newspaper quoted a source from BYD’s public relations department saying the Chinese company plans to bid – in an open tender Correios would launch later this year – to supply vans for its logistics operations.
