A delegation of Chinese technicians will be in Guinea-Bissau soon, to start a project aimed at manufacturing tractors and other agricultural machinery in the African nation, online news portal Macauhub reported on Monday.
China’s Ambassador to Guinea-Bissau, Wang Hua, made the announcement on Friday. He was speaking at a ceremony marking the delivery of agricultural equipment donated by the Chinese Government to the African nation for growing rice.
Mr Wang noted – as quoted by the media outlet – Guinea-Bissau has enough water, arable land and farmers – as well as a suitable climate – to produce food not only for domestic consumption but also for export.
During Friday’s ceremony, the President of Guinea-Bissau, José Mário Vaz, said – as quoted in the news report – the restructuring of agriculture is crucial for the country’s development; and that machinery is needed in order to upgrade gradually the production chain.
