The recently appointed Consul General of Angola in Guangzhou, João Baptista da Costa, has been visiting those parts of China covered by his consular duties in order to seek economic partnership opportunities for his country.
Such ties could help to diversify the African nation’s economy, reported Angolan news agency Angop this week, citing a press release it had received.
Mr Costa visited local authorities in the autonomous region of Guangxi, as well as authorities in Fujian and Hainan provinces, according to the statement quoted by Angop. The Consulate General in Guangzhou serves Angola’s interests in those regions, in addition to Angola’s interests in Guangdong province.
During his visits, the Consul General asked local officials to help mobilise companies and business people from those regions to launch partnerships in Angola, under his country’s private investment policy, the report said.
The Consul General said – as quoted by the media outlet – that investment in the agriculture, food processing, manufacturing, and services sectors would be seen as a priority in order to boost the Angolan economy.
The Consulate General of Angola in Guangzhou opened in April. It is the third Angolan consular mission in China, adding to the one in Macao and the one in Hong Kong, Angop had previously reported. Angolan interests in China are also represented by the African country’s Embassy in Beijing.
