Portugal’s unemployment rate stood at 11.6 percent in May, remaining unchanged from the previous month, the European nation’s statistics bureau announced last week.
Statistics Portugal revealed official provisional estimates showing the country had in May an unemployed population of 587,400 people: 5,200 fewer jobless people than in April.
“The youth unemployment rate stood at 28.6 percent and decreased by 1.2 percentage points from the previous month,” the bureau said in a statement.
Portuguese online news portal Dinheiro Vivo said the unemployment rate in Portugal has been decreasing since 2013, but it is still one of the highest in the European Union, according to data released on Friday by Eurostat.
