The President of Cape Verde, Jorge Carlos Fonseca, will hold a bilateral meeting with China’s President Xi Jinping, on the sidelines of the Second Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), an official note said.

“This Summit has a great importance to Cape Verde, taking into account, on one hand, the historic ties and existing co-operation relations between Cape Verde and China, and, on the other hand, a number of projects that would be introduced,” Cape Verde’s Presidency said in a press statement.

The note added the Chinese Government had already announced it would provide “large funds to continue to support the development of African countries, under a new co-operation model to be announced during the summit”.

China’s Ministry of Commerce last week announced China would unveil a range of proposals at the FOCAC Summit, including a boosting of investment in Africa and the importation of more products from that continent.

The Summit will be held in Johannesburg, South Africa, on December 4 and 5.
